I'm the author of the YA fantasy series ALLON. I began writing the series when my daughter asked me for a book. Once I started, her friends became interested and the stories flowed to answer their questions and struggles of life during the teen years. I learned a lot during those conversations. Kids don't want pat or politically correct answer, they want honest, truthful dialogue. Hopefully, that's what I gave them.

It is so important to foster of love of books to our kids! Library story times are a great place to learn about new books. My kids love our weekly visits to the library. I like Erica's activity with James and the Giant Peach - very creative!

I'm teaching 5th grade this year, and our classroom has focused on novels. Two of my kids' favorites were "James and the Giant Peach" and "The Whipping Boy". We borrowed an oversized beach ball from the gym teacher and made it into a peach. Each person created a charater from the story. We hung them in a corner with background material. The kids really got into the story, and even felt funny moving on to another story.
