| John Milton was a 17th century poet famed for his two epic poems Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained. Milton came under scrutiny for his radical political views and his heretical religious beliefs. | This prose-work is one of the classics that encapsulates Milton's speech for the liberty of unlicensed printing to the parliament of England. Milton has squabbled against the Licensing order of 1643. The book is a significant philosophical defense of the liberated and emancipated speech and stands apart in the annals of history. | Paradise Lostrevivifies Adam's fall from the Garden of Eden. Samson Agonistes follows blind Samson, whose titanic strength destroyed both himself and the Philistines to bring his people deliverance. Lycidas is a pastoral lamentation for a Cambridge student who drowned, and an immortal elegy of all lost hopes. |
| Samson Agonistes, by John Milton, is a "Tragedy" written in blank verse. It almost follows the theme of defection of a woman and humiliation suffered by the hero that was touched in Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained. With biblical over-tones, the tragedy follows the Greek traditions of Chorus and agony of the hero. An enchanting work that reflects author's own agony of descent into darkness. |
