Just before Christmas, Keith returns home to claim an inheritance, but can't decide whether to stay in his aunt's old house, or keep his city apartment. He loves that house, but his hometown holds bad memories. Deciding to stay until New Year's before making a decision, Keith goes to buy a Christmas tree and runs into the one person he isn’t ready to meet again.

Seeing Dale again is sweet torture, complicated even more because Dale's out and about with two kids. But Dale seems happy to see Keith again, and extremely interested to discover Keith is a successful author. Not only that, but under the pen-name of Guy Fortune, Keith is one of Dale's favorite gay authors. Will Dale have a confession to make for Christmas?

Keith Lawson has been in love with Dale Ormiston since they were kids. He hasn’t seen him in ten years. Now back in his hometown to see the house his aunt left him in her will, Keith comes face-to-face again with the man he’s always loved. Can Keith’s good fortune continue with a relationship with Dale?

Fortune’s Choice is a steamy romance about long lost love. Keith and Dale find something they always wanted but never knew they could have. They are really sweet guys. They weren’t looking for love, but when they found it, they grabbed it and didn’t let go. Although things move a little fast, Fortune’s Choice is still a sweet and sexy love story.

I knew when I had seen the excerpt that the author had posted on livejournal that I wanted to read this story. The entire scene of Keith first spotting Dale on a Christmas tree lot was beautifully crafted. The feeling of the tree lot, of coming home to the familiar, the re-cap of the last ten years, pulls the reader in and sets the stage for what’s to come. I wasn't dissapointed in the rest of the story.

This author’s forte is expressing the feelings of the characters. Time is taken to fully flesh out thoughts and reactions to physical sensations. I look forward to reading more of Stevie’s works.

"Fortune's Choice" is a short but sweet love story about two men who fell for each other long ago but never acted on their feelings. When Keith runs into his old heartthrob, Dale, he knows nothing has changed. Though Dale appears as straight as an arrow, he knows far more than he lets on about Keith's inner wants and needs.

When it looks like they might have a chance at happiness together, Keith and Dale set out to rediscover everything they can about each other. There is much to learn, for example, about Keith's success as a writer of gay fiction, and Dale's busy career running the family construction business. To put it bluntly, they don't waste any time making up for lost time.

"Fortune's Choice" is a Torquere Press Single Shot so it's fairly short at 25 pages, which doesn't leave a lot of room for anything else but plot and characterization. Woods handles both quite well, giving us just enough of each to keep this sweetly told, second-chance-at-love story afloat.
