The Little Black Fish
Unhappy with a life without any aspiration or purpose, critical of a lifestyle that has remained unchanged throughout generations, The Little Black Fish decides to look for answers outside his mediocre world to see “life as it should be”. He faces hostility from the community members, who see their way of life under attack and believe that accepting “life as it is” would be the safest way to survival.
The Little Black Fish embarks on an eye-opening journey with the spirit of a dreamer experiencing an awakening and the prospects of the deeds he would perform, but in the process he does more than that.
The path leads him to awareness, wisdom, courage and study of complex social relations. The actions of small fish thinking pathetically only about their lives, and those of The Little Black Fish saving the tiny fish before saving himself, are remarkable manifestations of human behavior when their actions are put to test.
The story of The Little Black Fish is a revelation not just an experience. It is about stepping outside the boundaries of a self-centered existence, drawing a distinction between the dynamic and the static. It has pedagogic values, political messages and a simple analogy for the younger readers to understand. The goal of The Little Black Fish is to fulfill his ultimate quest: "How will my life or death impact the lives of others?"
Once The Little Black Fish has identified the problem, he sets a goal to look for solutions. The path is clearly defined and covers five fundamental steps in an effort to achieve the ultimate objective of building a better future for everyone:
• Setting up a goal,
• Making connection,
• Assuming leadership,
• Planning,
• Fulfilling the plan until victory.
