Author Biography

I'm a teacher of the world-renowned Alexander Technique, runner, martial artist and published author. I have over 25 years experience in competitive sport and have spent the last 15 studying performance enhancement.

In common with most athletes, I suffered from injuries and the usual aches and pains and just assumed this was normal. Eventually, I found an answer to my dilemma that would radically change my attitude to sport and physical activity. It came from an unexpected source. Whilst trying to resolve a long-standing back problem, I came upon the Alexander Technique. At my first lesson, the teacher pointed out something I was doing that made movement much harder than it should be. This ‘something’ resulted in using far too much effort to carry out even simple activities - and yet I wasn’t even aware I was doing it! This came as quite a shock as I'd thought I knew how to use my body correctly for sport.

I then realised that the majority of sports people had similar habits to my own to a greater or lesser degree and as a result their performance was below their true potential. My first attempt to write a brochure about my 'new' approach to sports training turned into a 45,000 words book that was really just a rant at conventional methods - thankfully it's now out of print :0)

My second book, 'Zone Mind, Zone Body' was a much better attempt to put across the philosophy of The Alexander Technique to sports people. I was a little apprehensive how it might be received seeing as it didn't contain the usual advice on training. However, I very pleased with the reviews and it was a golfer in Australia who said how much it had helped his golf that planted the idea for my next book. I'd coached a number of golfers in my teaching practice and always found them to be very receptive to my techniques.

After experimenting with a number of techniques I started writing 'Golf Sense' and 18 months later it was published (June 2010). I like to think of it as a practical approach to mental golf or psychology. The early reviews from coaches and players has been very encouraging and I'm now doing talks and courses at golf clubs using the techniques from the book.
