Born and raised in Kingston Jamaica and while growing up in the ghettoes of Trench Town created and invented the word- Reggae and with my brethrens such as Junior Braithwaite, and Garth Dennis gave the name -Wailing Wailers to Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer. Bob then formed his group of singers and musicians under the influence of Chris Blackwell from Island records to be called Bob Marley and the wailers. They chose to keep the name Wailing Wailers given to them by myself, Junior braithwaite, and Garth Dennis. We were the only original wailing wailers, they became Bob Marley and the Wailers. It is most important that people understand this distinction in our foundational history as so many have been misled to believe that Bunny Wailer is the original wailer and the only wailer alive today. In 1964 I created and coined the term-Reggae Opera- while Bob Marley and Peter Tosh were still with us as a group of poor youths in the ghetto Kingston12. I was a brethren, friend and mentor to Bob Marley and many other youths. Having just received a scholarship to attend the prestigious catholic school- St. George's College in 1962 my parents decided that I should focus on my books instead of singing, and so I had to obey and live or disobey and die. I chose to live and the rest is history.
While in school I used Latin to coin Reggae and Reggae Opera in 1962 and 1964 while sneaking to do my music with my friends on the side. I took the music to the school and the jesuits gave me their blessings. My parents were not amused and so I continued my studies. I have not regretted my decision by obeying my parents, and so I went on to become now one of the world's leading Medical Radiologic Technological expert and consultant.

I have been writing books since I was about ten years old living in the poverty I have grown to know so well. My parents were my role models and older people have influenced me a great deal. My mother was central to my life and so was my father. They taught me things that no other life persons could have taught me. They taught me how to care about other people that you do not really have to know. It was in 1957 Kendall Jamaica at the most tragic train accident that I saw my parents helping the sick, suffering and dying. I was with them serving tea and coffee to those who were dying, It was horrifying to me then as a young child. I will never forget this, nor will I forget them and what they taught me. They were dirt poor, but they gave from the little they had.

I was determined never to let them down and education was their chief platform for all of us kids and all the children in the ghetto of Trench Town. I stayed in school and obtained my bachelors and doctoral degrees in professions helping and caring for the sick and suffering. I have never forgotten my music in all this and so my motto has been this: "A Reggae education for a healing of the nation".

The Reggae music I named and helped to create will some day put an end to the disease of poverty. I intend to help all those who come my way as I try to put an end to Racism, Bigotry, and poverty. I do not need a red carpet to define my way. I am Ras Cardo, the rastaman and spiritual elder of the Ark of the reggae covenant from Trench Town.
