The land of Pily had fallen under a grey, cold blanket of ice and snow. The land, which was once mystical and full of light, had darkened once its Princess Dilly had disappeared. For 15 years the King and Queen of Pily had waited and watched their kingdom freeze and darken, not knowing if they would ever see their daughter again. The only clue left from that dark day that carried the sunlight and the princess away was a magnificent blue bird, frozen in the courtyard, frozen in time.

But one night, the king awoke abruptly after a prophetic dream. He heard the blue bird speak to him once again and thought it a sign that things were about to change. He and the queen began to hope for the best, for they believed the bird knew something they did not about the disappearance of their daughter. But just when a ray of sunshine peeked out from beneath a layer of clouds, the maid, Lootie, cast doubt on the king and queen’s optimism and then mysteriously disappeared herself.
As the king and queen entered the courtyard in anticipation, they were greeted by a strange turn of events. Their missing daughter has reappeared but not quite how they remembered, and she doesn’t stay long before vanishing. The king and queen now know what they must do to get her back, but how? And how does Lootie, their faithful maid, play into the equation?
