Author Biography

On June 3, 1985, I graduated Swainsboro High School, located in Swainsboro, Georgia, the town of my birth. Exactly one week after graduating high school, I left for San Diego, California to begin basic training. During my senior year in high school, I had enlisted under the U.S. Navy's Delay Entry Program. I was 17 years of age. After successful completion of basic training and A-school, which was also held in San Diego, I was sent to my command station aboard the U.S.S. Lockwood FF 1064 in Yokosuka, Japan. Following my stint in the military, I enrolled at Savannah State College (later, Savannah State University) in Savannah, Georgia. I transferred a year later to East Georgia College in Swainsboro. After two quarters there, I transferred to Georgia Southern University, where I graduated on Saturday, June 13, 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exceptional Childhood Education. In the fall of 1992, I began teaching at Swainsboro Primary School. The following year, I taught at Swainsboro Elementary School. In 1994, I relocated to Macon, Georgia where I continued my career in education at Ingram/Pye Elementary School. The next year, I enrolled in graduate school at Mercer University in the same city. Since teaching, I have held various positions in retail, management, and hospitality. In October 2007, I move from Georgia to New York City. Since coming to New York, I have completed a screenwriting course at Gotham Writers Workshop. I took that knowledge and completed a screenplay entitled Surviving Darkness, based on my autobiography of the same name. I presently reside in New York City and am busy at work on other books and screenplays.
Influences/Inspirations:
My influences and inspirations have been all the wonderful individuals I have met over the course of my life. I am continuously inspired by the generosity, kindness, and strength of my mother, my grandmother, and others who presently impact my being.
Favorite Writers and Artists:
As a young boy, my favorite author was Glendon Swarthout. His book, "Bless the Beasts and Children," had a lasting impression on me. To date, there are too many great writers out there to say that I have a clear favorite. However, I have enjoyed the writings of authors like Maya Angelou, Zora Neale Hurston, and Elizabeth Gilbert.
Current Projects:
Currently, I am writing two screenplays that are based on novels I'm crafting. There is also a spiritual book boiling in my creative pot.
Interests:
My interests include film and screenwriting. I am looking forward to directing and producing my own films.
Family:
I am single and have no children.
