His promotion is on hold, his long time girl friend has ended their relationship. In fear of stagnating he accepts a temporarily assignment on the planet below with the Drug Enforcement Administration (the only duty assignment he is able to obtain)
The truth about the mother planet slowly creeps in throughout the story. How people are genetically designed to fit the needs of the drug trade. How generations of drug usage has left many needing more, even the tainted blood of others. On his first mission captain Harrison stumbles upon one of the genetically contrived humans, known as half breeds. Shortly after bringing him back from his jungle hideout he is killed, but not before leaving Harrison a clue as to why the drug lords are always one step ahead of the DEA.
In has attempt to unravel the plot captain Harrison finds not one but two new loves, Megan, a beautiful blue eyed co-worker, and second the freedom that he never realized existed, neither of which he can now let go. He also finds the plot is much too advanced for him to reverse, he can now only retaliate by stopping those who are responsible, in the hope that this will end the termination. With enhanced drugs you don’t just keep up, you excel. Imagine being anything you want, who wouldn’t desire that? Who could control it? However, as with most things there’s a price to be paid. The enhanced drugs are very expensive and the improvements are short lived, thus it must be taken continuously. The side effects or should we say aftermath is not the drug lords’ problem, that belongs to the government. To be more precise the DEA. For this, the DEA has formulated (clean-up crews) their name pretty much describes their job. These men are well trained, and extremely well armed. Concerning drugs the DEA has full authority and the clean-up crews are the force behind it. Clean-up has become very cold and callus in doing their job, which is to eliminate druggies and their addictive crop effectively. However, this is not permitted without evidence. First the agents must locate and record the drug manufacturing in progress or discover a drug lord present, before the crews are called in. Everyone knows, all to well, that DEA doesn’t take prisoners, the crews eradicate everything.
Having this much power, chief Boyd of the DEA is an open target for everyone in government, especially the Head Counselor who knows chief Boyd would never consort with the government plot. The Head Counselor aligns himself with the drug lords in order to eliminate Chief Boyd and the DEA, and at a later time the drug lords themselves. It’s a double-cross on a global scale. Meanwhile, Chief Boyd uses Captain Harrison, considering his knowledge of the space program, as his trump card when the Head Counselor takes control of the space program and turns it against the DEA. However no one realized that the government nurtured and educated captain Harrison, they know exactly what he knows and what he is capable of. Captain Harrison completes the task that he unknowingly has been trained for. The Head Counselor has all bases covered, except one. Harrison has falling in love and doesn’t want to leave Megan, or the planet which represents his freedom. However, the Head Counselor has sealed everyone’s fate, and staying is not an option. Harrison’s definitive act before having to leave the planet is to try and stop the Head Counselor or join him.
