I am currently a Senior Research Fellow in the Sustainability Research Institute at the University of Leeds, England. Before taking up this position I was a Senior Research Fellow at Mansfield College, University of Oxford. Focussing on different aspects of environmental problems and sustainable development, I have published 4 academic books.

In 2009 I published At The Edge: Walking the Atlantic Coast of Ireland and Scotland. This book tells the story of my 1500km walk along the west coasts of Ireland and Scotland, from County Kerry to the Isle of Lewis. Although the text is in English, Irish and Scottish Gaelic are used throughout, making it a unique publication. At The Edge is my first book for a wider audience.

The walk and writing At The Edge have changed the direction of my academic work. I'm increasingly interested in the relationship between environment and imperialism which means analysing contemporary imperialism as a cause of environmental problems and exploring the ways in which some 'solutions' to environmental problems also represent modern forms of imperialism. Climate change is one of the subjects I'm exploring.
