John W. Gorski has a B.A. in English from the University of Cincinnati and has studied poetry writing at the University of Washington Extension. He grew up primarily in Maryland and Ohio and has lived in Seattle since 1976. His poetry has been published in Seattle Poems by Seattle Poets (an anthology), Paper Boat, Art Access, Switched On Gutenberg (an electronic journal), The Metro Poetry Bus Project - 1997, Real Change and Shirtpocket Books (SCW publications). |
Influences/Inspirations:
I'm heavily influenced by intelligent song lyrics as well as classic formal verse but also like free verse. I strive to write poetry that is accessible to general readers but also hope to appeal to those with advanced education in literature.
Favorite Writers and Artists:
W.B. Yeats, Leonard Cohen, Robert Bly, Mark Strand, Guillame Appollinaire, Philip Levine, Van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Monet.
Current Projects:
Writing free and formal verse, attending writing/reading classes at Hugo House (a literary center) in Seattle.
Interests:
Poetry, music appreciation, world history, discovering new visual art, going to movies and travel.

I have a younger brother and sister. My parents are deceased.
