Author Biography

Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson is the author of some 25 books, mostly in the field of the history of psychology (The Assault on Truth; Against Therapy; Final Analysis; A Dark Science; The Complete Letters of Sigmund Freud to Wilhelm Fliess)and the study of animal emotions (When Elephants Weep; Dogs Never Lie About Love; The Nine Emotional Lives of Cats; The Pig Who Sang to the Moon, Raising the Peaceable Kingdom; Altruistic Armadillos - Zenlike Zebras and The Cat Who Came in from the Cold.). He has also written about wild children (Kaspar Hauser) and fatherhood (The Evolution of Fatherhood). For many years he was Professor of Sanskrit and then he was, briefly, Projects Director of the Sigmund Freud Archives. With his wife, the pediatrician Leila Masson, and his two boys, Ilan and Manu, he has lived for the last 8 years in New Zealand (Slipping into Paradise: Why I Live in New Zealand - revised edition urgently needed!). In 2009 he moved back to Berkeley, California. Today he writes mostly about animals: his book The Face on Your Plate: The Truth About Food is due in March, 2009. He is editing the illustrated edition of Freud's The Interpretation of Dreams, and has recently signed a contract with HarperCollins to write: The Dog Who Could Not Stop Loving: A 40,000 Year Romance.
