Color illustrations are reproduced from Elizabeth Blackwell's A Curious Herbal (1737) in the Huntington Library, and other rare books in the collection are represented by excerpts of botanical lore. Sales of this book support the programs of the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, a non-profit educational and cultural institution in Southern California serving both scholars and the general public. The Huntington Herb Garden has one of the finest collections of herbs in the country, from the well-known to the obscure, and from Native American plants to exotic examples from Europe, Asia, and Central and South America.
