R.J. Hansen was nicknamed Squat by his teammates on the University of Michigan baseball team because he never played, but it didn’t matter to him, he was a Michigan Man just the same, and no one could take that away with a stupid nickname. Squat never had an easy time with baseball, school, or girls, and his senior year didn’t look to be much different. After arriving at school in the fall he finds out that his coach has turned in an untimely resignation, and his best friend, Benny, is one more collision with the outfield fence away from permanent brain damage. Then, to make matters worse, he makes a drunken late night phone call to his ex-girlfriend, and still love of his life, Beth. As his senior year goes on, Squat begins to realize his problems with baseball won’t last much longer, and it scares him to death.
