Hillary Homzie was born in Denver, Colorado and then moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, where she was raised. After graduating from the University of Virginia, she lived in Philadelphia and New York City. Currently, she resides with her family in Northern California.
She is the author of the tween novel, Things Are Gonna Get Ugly (Simon & Schuster/Aladdin Mix)and the chapter book series, Alien Clones From Outer Space (Simon & Schuster/Aladdin), a Children's Book-of-the-Month selection. Her short stories have been anthologized and she has written for many publications, including New York Newsday and Teen Magazine. In New York, she created and performed sketch comedy Off-Broadway. Two of her screenplays have been optioned, and her play, The Juice of It, was a finalist for the Heideman Playwrighting Award.
She holds a master's degree in education from Temple University, and a master’s of arts degree from Hollins University in children's literature and writing. She has reviewed books for Children's Literature databause and The Philadelphia Inquirer. In addition, she is a popular editorial consultant. Currently, she is a visiting professor of children’s writing and literature at Hollins University, and has lectured on comedy and children’s writing at conferences and schools across the United States.
