Math Tools for Journalists
Math Tools for Journalists is a concise guide to the mathc oncepts journalists regularly face. The book offers a refresher on arithmetic, then covers increasingly complex math topics ranging from percentages to statistics. The goal of Math Tools for Journalists is to enable journalists to feel comfortable with math. The end result should be stories written with greater clarity, credibility and accuracy. The book is also designed for journalism programs seeking to meet the mandates of the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. ACEJMC adopted new standards in Fall 2000 calling on accredited journalism schools to include numeracy skills within the professional values and competencies taught to undergraduate journalism majors. The new principles were effective September 2001. Journalism schools seeking accreditation beginning in 2002-2003 will have to utilize the standards as part of the accreditation process. Book jacket.
