Author Biography

I was inspired to write books after watching the movie classic 'Lawrence of Arabia'. I thought how amazing it must be to write about your experiences and have them made into a movie. Then I thought how amazing it would be to write fiction books for people to enjoy. I was 14 years old then, and this marked the beginning of my journey to become a writer.

THE SANDMAN is a fictional thriller novel about a saboteur on a mission to destroy the nuclear reactor in Iran. It placed 1st Runner-Up for Fiction in the 2009 Military Writer's Society of America's Book Awards. I was inspired to write this story when I learned of the growing threat of war in the Middle East as Iran pursued its nuclear program.

THE SANDMAN is my first published novel and dedicated to my wife and son for their belief in me and support of pursuing my dream. I served 3 years in the US Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. I worked for Expo Design Center, a former division of The Home Depot, and currently work for Pacific Sales. I continue to write novels and plan on publishing a 2nd novel in 2010.

My novel is available in hard and soft cover and can be purchased in San Diego bookstores at Warwick's, Bay Books, and Mysterious Galaxy Books. It will soon be available on eKindle too! You can also purchase a copy online by clicking the Buy it link below for direct access to Amazon.com, Powell's Books, Indiebound, Borders, Barnes and Noble, and many other on-line retailers.

Influences/Inspirations:
My mother and father were good inspirations for me. Their teaching of family values, responsibility and how to enjoy the small things in life have helped me be the person I am today. I also received a lot of inspiration from my family in Texas (I think of them often).

Well-known figures of inspiration for me have been T.E. Lawrence, JFK & RFK, Davy Crockett, George Washington (and many more).

Other persons of inspiration for me have been Susan Purcell and Debby Dreischmeyer.
Favorite Writers and Artists:
Stephen King, Stuart Woods, Carolyn Wada, Matt Schott, Roger Conlee, Steve Berry, Nora Roberts, Ian Fleming.

My favorite actor is John Wayne (more so for his early work in film). My favorite actress is Ava Gardner (even by today's standard no one can hold a candle to her).
Current Projects:
I am looking to improve my following of readers by writing a novel that will appeal to people of all genre. My next novel is a comedy about retail. I have chosen this subject because comedy novels seem to have a steady rise of reader-favorites and everyone at some point in their life has probably had a job in retail and will relate to much of what my book is about. I have a sample chapter posted for you to view.
Interests:
I love camping, hiking, visiting the National Parks. I also like to mountain and road bike. Lately my adopted dog, Zion, has reintroduced me to the joys of San Diego. I take him on walks everyday and can't believe how much my home city has changed. Walking downtown and along the boardwalk is great!

I also love to read and write, not to forget enjoying a relaxing evening watching a movie favorite with a glass of wine or Barcardi Lite and diet Coke mix (Two glasses, no more).
Family:
I am married to a beautiful woman named Martha. She has put up with me for over 21 years, so that pretty much tells everyone how strong, patient, and forgiving she can be. She has many qualities in a person that are hard to come by. Her passion is cooking and I would bet she could hold her own with any famous chef.

We have one son, Carlo (not Carlos). He graduated from SDSU on May 21, 2010 and that was our proudest day, knowing he has control of his future.
University Affiliations:
I attended Southwestern College right out of High School, but after one year joined the Army and was honorably discharged in 1987.

I returned to San Diego Community College for vocational training and received my PHCC Journey Level Plumber's Certification in 1995

In 2008-2009 I completed courses at San Diego Unified School District for management, leadership, and customer service. This training has been extremely helpful in my current job with Pacific Sales

It sounds like you have a good method for doing some writing each day. That's what it takes!

Making good progress, but it's amazing how much time it takes to write. I'm starting to take my laptop to work and write during my lunch breaks. It's working pretty good. This should speed up my edit of first manuscript before getting a professional edit. Then we'll see----
