Author Biography

Dave Eckardt lives in the central mountains of Colorado and has lead a life balanced between work, relationships, and outdoor recreation. His publishied works to date are guidebooks to regions of western north america that he knows and loves: his home state of Colorado and Baja California Mexico. His specialties are whitewater kayaking and sea kayaking, though he is fairly strong in his minor, which is skiing. He has been lucky to have lived in and visited some of the most beautiful places on this continent and to convey back to his readers the specialness of those places.
Influences/Inspirations:
Probably too many to list: any form of writing that is high quality--meaning that the author is good enough to put you into his/her mind, to "take you there", so that you can marvel about the subject and the author's deft consciousness at parallel times.
Favorite Writers and Artists:
Hemingway, Melville, Styron. "The Guide to the Best Whitewater in the State of California" by Lars Holbeck and Chuck Stanley really got me going in my business. When it came out it was new and fresh and scary. Then to go there and run those rivers and then get in those guys' minds at night at camp and realize that "oh my god, I'm going to be doing that tomorrow!" In the river running world they call it "guidebook fever" and I got it in more ways than one.
Current Projects:
Nothing on the author/publishing front for the immediate future. Right now I'm trying to get more internet savy so that I can market my product better.
Interests:
The beauty of life, and trying not to let the negatives incapacitate me.
