Author Biography

About the Author:

Carlos Villafañe has been involved in the electronics field since 1987. During his career, he has worked as an electronics technician, biomedical technician, consultant, electronics teacher and has provided technical support to various independent service repair centers. Carlos has studied Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computers and Communications. In 2007 he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Management.

Currently he holds several certifications:

• General Radiotelephone Operator's License (GROL) with a Ship Radar Endorsement License, issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
• General Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), issued by the FCC.
• Chief Examiner by the National Radio Examiners (NRE), provides test reviews and commercial exams for the FCC.
• A + Certified Professional (Computer Repair) by CompTIA
• Certified Electronics Technician (CET)” Wireless Communications “, “Radar Electronics” and “Biomedical Electronics”, issued by Electronics Technicians Association (ETA).
• Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) issued by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI/ ICC).

Carlos has collaborated with various specialized technical magazines in Spanish, including “Electrónica y Servicio” (Electronics and Service) in Mexico and “Saber Electrónica” (Knowing Electronics) in Argentina, where his technical articles have been published in the past. He has worked for Panasonic Sales Company, Vision Industries and Alpha Electronics, giving technical seminars at independent service repair centers in Puerto Rico and providing technical support to electronics engineering students at various universities.

The author worked as a Biomedical Technician for General Electric Medical Systems (GE Healthcare) from 2003 until 2008, servicing a wide variety of medical equipment. He currently works for BayCare Health System in the Clinical Engineering Department.

The author is currently the webmaster for Bay Area Association of Medical Instrumentation (www.baami.org). He’s also the creator and webmaster for www.techniciansfriend.com and www.biomedtechnicians.com, created to provide technical guidance and information to students from various fields such as electronics, biomed and similar industries.

Sobre el Autor

Carlos Villafañe ha estado envuelto en el campo de la Electrónica desde 1987. Durante su carrera, ha trabajado como técnico de Electrónica, técnico de Biomédica, consultor, maestro y dando apoyo técnico. Tiene estudios en las áreas de Ingeniería Electrónica, Ingeniería Biomédica, Computadoras y Comunicaciones. En el 2007 completó su Bachillerato en Gerencia Técnica.

Al presente, posee las licencias “GROL with Ship Radar Endorsement"(General Radiotelephone Operator's License) y la GMDSS (General Maritime Distress and Safety System), ambas expedidas por la FCC (Federal Communications Commision). Además, está certificado como "Chief Examiner" por la National Radio Examiners (NRE) para ofrecer repasos y los exámenes comerciales de la FCC.

Posee la certificación de Reparador de Computadoras “A+ Certified Professional” otorgada por CompTIA, así como las certificaciones de CET (Certified Electronics Technician) "Wireless Communications", "Radar Electronics" y “Biomedical Electronics”.

Carlos ha tenido la oportunidad de colaborar con distintas revistas técnicas, como "Electrónica y Servicio" de México y "Saber Electrónica" de Argentina, en donde han salido publicados artículos de su autoría. Ha trabajado para empresas como Panasonic Sales Company y Alpha Electronics, dando seminarios a técnicos de Centros de Servicio Independientes en Puerto Rico y orientando a estudiantes de Electrónica en distintos centros estudiantiles y universidades.
