Bruce Stores took an early retirement from the newspaper business and moved to Mexico in 1995. But his love for the Indigenous and Spanish cultures began many years before when he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala in the early 1960's. Once in Mexico, while studying the various indigenous cultures, he became facinated with the Zapotecs (Binni -za) of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. He then immersed himself in learning as much as he could about the history, customs, culture and politics of the Isthmus. The result was his historical fiction account of this largely unknown area of Mexico. "THE ISTHMUS, Stories from Mexico's Past, 1495-1995" is an account of the Spanish/Indigenous cultures over a 500 year span. Bruce now lives in the city of Oaxaca with two close friends and his pet dog "Chico." |
