Katie's Summer
Mon, Jul 19, 2010
In late June, Katie competed in the Ohio Special Olympics at Columbus. She came home with a Silver Medal and a Bronze Medal in her freestyle and her backstroke - both 50 meters. Even though we are very proud that she did NOT DQ, it was comforting that there were only three swimmers in each of her events. In other words, as long as she swam correctly, she was guaranteed a medal. I'm not sure she realized it, but the pressure was off!
Katie also spent a week at St. Francis Camp on the Lake at Jerome, MI. The camp is celebrating 25 years, and Katie has been there for 18 of those years. It is a very pretty camp with large log buildings for the mens and womens sleeping quarters, and has a great beach and pontoon boat on Goose Lake in the Irish Hills. Although we're told Katie misses me (mom) it usually doesn't prevent her from participating in all the activities, including wonderful campfires and parties in their pavillion. We are waiting to get this years pictures back from her camera, and then put them in her album.
Soon we will go down to the cabin in North Carolina. It provides all of us with lots of relaxation, hiking, swimming and boating opportunities. And Katie will get to sleep in the "moose room" - her favorite.
